About the display

Christmas at the Hormanns is a family-run holiday light show in Liberty Township, Ohio. Greg and Mary Hormann started it in 2001, and it has been computer controlled from the first season. It has since grown to 75,805 individually controlled pixels synchronized to 89 minutes of music on 106.7 FM. Visitors vote for the next song from their phones, text their names onto the display, and donate food and cash for local food banks. Admission is free, and the show runs nightly through the holiday season.
How we can help
We love sharing the display and will work around your schedule and format. The show runs nightly from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, so it's lit for the early and late evening newscasts, and we can do early-morning sessions on special request. There's plenty of room on the street for news vans.
- Live shots. We're glad to host a live broadcast from the yard, with an on-camera interview during the segment.
- Pre-recorded interviews. Come out to shoot B-roll and sit down with us for an interview you can cut into a package.
- Build footage. Setup takes 14 days, and we have time-lapse videos of the build and takedown you're welcome to use. They're on the season pages, or ask and we'll point you to the right one.
- Comments for written stories. Writing a holiday lights roundup or a feature? We're happy to answer questions by email or provide a quote.
Feel free to show up anytime during show hours, though a heads-up helps us make sure someone is available. Email ghormann@gmail.com, or for a quicker reply, message us on Facebook.
You're welcome to talk with visitors at the display. Whether to be interviewed or filmed, especially children, is up to each visitor and their parents.
The story angles
- 26 years. The display started in 2001 with two homemade controllers running 8 circuits each. It now has 75,805 individually controlled pixels. The full history →
- Food bank drive. Every season, visitors donate food and cash for local food banks through the Southwest Ohio Valley Women's Club. Totals by year →
- Visitors control parts of the show. They vote for the next song from their phones, text their names onto the 18ft × 8ft grid over the front door, and press buttons in the walk-through tunnel (39,661 presses in 2025). How it works →
- A family project. Greg and Mary take two weeks off work every November to set it up, and the kids help on weekends. The rest of the year goes to programming songs, repairs, and building new pieces.
